In June 2021, the FCC unanimously voted to start procedures to ban the sale of these brands to the general public by denying new products FCC approval. In 2019, the US government banned the use of Dahua, Hikvision and Montavue security cameras in federal facilities. Lorex is a brand that is owned by Dahua and Dahua products that are branded under any other name are still banned. We see no distinction between this and if Lorex were to do the same.
Our understanding of the law is that if Dahua buys products from other suppliers and then brands them as Dahua, then the equipment would still be banned. Since Lorex is a retail brand for Dahua, we believe that the law applies to them as well. While we appreciate the effort on his part, we do not believe this is an accurate interpretation of the NDAA law. We were contacted by the CEO of Lorex, who wanted to explain that if they buy equipment from other suppliers (not the company that owns them) and brands the equipment as Lorex, then the equipment would not fall under the recent NDAA law or the FCC ban. I checked and there he was, crossing our neighbors backyard through ours. While looking on the app I noticed a notification for our parking area in the back. We heard from neighbors about the incident and immediately checked our front camera trying to see if we could see the suspect walking by. We had a adored local grocery where both owners were stabbed over a customer not wearing a mask in the store. We get many notifications throughout the day, and I am working on the settings to lessen the many non-movement ones. I know Lorex can do better! Please upgrade the Lorex Home app to have a native iPad version and also allow to login on more than one device. I didn’t have this issue with my prior Lorex system (which used the Lorex cloud app I believe) so I’m not sure why a newer system has a worse app supporting it. When I need to quickly check my cameras because something might be happening, I don’t want to have to log in again because I was logged out by using another device. If I try to log in on the iPad (despite the small display) it logs me out of the iPhone. You can load the iPhone version on an iPad but the dimensions keep the phone dimensions so you gain nothing in screen size by using your iPad! Furthermore, and even more importantly, it seems that you can only login to your cameras on one device at a time. My last Lorex system must have used another app because I was able to use the iPad to view the cameras. It works nice on my phone but there is no iPad version, only the iPhone version. The system itself is great and I’m happy with the cameras and other hardware so far but the Lorex Home app is disappointing. We're happy to hear we hit the mark for you, and we'll do our best to keep it up. I have checked that all firmware is up to date and yet nothing is working. I have rebooted the router like the Lorex troubleshooting states and I have even deleted the app and reinstalled it. My main computer is working fine and is recording like it is supposed to.
I tested the Wi-Fi connectivity through the app and it says it is good. I can no longer see the live view on the app or get notifications or look at the timeline history. My app used to work great but all of a sudden yesterday it stopped. We can now see our live views on the app and it seems to be working correctly although we still have sporadic issues with getting the “oops, something went wrong” message. Our issue was fixed after we rebooted our main computer system back to the factory settings and set everything up from scratch again.
